Activity – Listening for and spelling place names

Listen to seven short conversations and write the country and city names that you hear. After you listen, write the nationality for that country. When you have finished all seven, click on the Check button to check your answers.

The first one has been done for you as an example. Try to do this without looking in a dictionary!

Now that you have practised listening for and spelling people and place names, it is a good idea to start noticing and writing down names you aren’t familiar with. These could be names you see or read at school, in newspapers and magazines, or even from this course. Make a list of names and practise saying and spelling them. This will help you feel more confident in Section 1.
